A new interpretation of Franz Schubert’s much-loved song cycle performed across surprise locations in the stunning, historic neighbourhood of Shandon on the northside of Cork.

Follow the trail through the bustling and vibrant city streets, stepping into once-familiar spaces to discover Winterreisse in a way never heard before – through intimate close-up performances from some incredible musicians and performers.

Performers will include JFDR, Gavan Ring, Gary Beecher, Lina Andonovska, Outsiders Ent., Neil O’Driscoll, Peter Power, Rachael Lavelle, Ciara O’Leary Fitzpatrick, Johnny McCarthy, and Bláithín MacGabhann.

The original poems by Wilhelm Muller, which Schubert set to music in 1827, depict the dark, beautiful journey from summer to winter, from life towards death. Musicians and artists from Cork, Iceland, and beyond – in eight very different spaces around Shandon – will create responses to the iconic song cycle (exploring genres including folk, hip hop, opera, traditional and more) through which audiences are free to create their own Winter Journey, in cosy pubs, wild gardens, austere churches and other stops throughout the neighbourhood.
