Irish National Opera: Rigoletto

  • Bord Gáis Energy Theatre Dublin, D Ireland (map)

The love between a father and daughter, a lustful Duke, revenge and a curse. The court jester Rigoletto loves his daughter Gilda above all else. When the Duke of Mantua and his courtiers play a cruel trick on them, Rigoletto plots murderous revenge. But Gilda’s love and devotion lead to devastating consequences.

Conducted by Fergus Sheil, Irish National Opera’s artistic director, Rigoletto is directed by Julien Chavaz and designed by Jamie Vartan, the team behind INO’s acclaimed William Tell. This new production promises a forceful exploration of grief, loss, and the destructive power of revenge. Baritone Michael Chioldi sings the title role, with soprano Soraya Mafi as his daughter Gilda and tenor Bekhzod Davronov as the Duke. Bass Julian Close is the assassin Sparafucile and Cork mezzo-soprano Niamh O'Sullivan is Maddalena. Featuring the Irish National Opera orchestra and chorus.
